Thursday September 16th

Read: Daniel 3

Learn: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were good friends of Daniel. They were sent to Babylon along with Daniel after Israel was conquered by the Babylonians. They were men who served the one true God. Like Daniel, they did not let the laws of the government alter their habits of worshipping the one true God. They made a deliberate decision to only worship God, no idols would be worthy of their devotion. They did this even though it meant they would be killed, burned alive to be precise. But their faith prevailed. Even though they were thrown into the fire, they did not burn. God saved them. The fourth figure we see in the fiery furnace along with them is another example of Jesus in the Old Testament.

Reflect: Do you have the faith to stand firm in your beliefs within an ever-changing world? Will you bow to the idols of popular culture? Or will you decide to worship God alone?

Pray: God, help me to stand firm in my faith even when things are changing all around me. No matter what happens in this world, I pray that you keep my eyes set on you, and you alone. May I be brave and bold in declaring that you are God alone. In Jesus name, Amen.
